Why RISE:NY

I’ve spent years in the music community: the shows, the tours, the friendships that only make sense if you’ve stood in that crowd. For me, it’s always been pure joy. But I’ve also watched people I love in this same community lose that joy to addiction, and I’ve seen others find their way back to it through recovery.

That struggle, and that hope, live everywhere, not just in the crowds I grew up in. That’s what drew me to the Divided Sky Foundation. Founded by Trey Anastasio and Melanie Gulde, it’s built on the idea that recovery works best when it happens in community, not isolation, no matter where that community comes from.

Their residential program gives people real tools, including mindfulness, the 12 Steps, and genuine connection, to rebuild a life worth showing up for. Anyone can walk through their doors, and that’s exactly the point.

I’m not throwing RISE:NY because I’ve walked that road myself. I’m throwing it because I’ve watched people I care about walk it, and because I believe everyone deserves the same shot at getting their life back, no matter who they are or what community they're a part of.

As a first-time host, I’m bringing together New York’s most generous supporters for one night to fund real outcomes: treatment beds, scholarships, second chances for anyone who needs them.
